Niek's world

I was going to do a whole posting of what my ideal country would be. What people would inhabit it and what I think the guidelines would be.

But I cannot be arsed so here a short version:

- No religious fanatics.
- No enviromentalists.
- No vegetarians and/or anti smokers (don't smoke anymore but hate those people who fake cough the moment I used to light up) and/or non-drinkers.
- Everybody should have a driver's license. Preferably a racing license too.
- No socialists
- No red-neck conservatives
- No bleeding heart politically correct liberals
- No people who do not posses a sense of humour
- Some intelligence
- And shit music is banned (cheap pop, R&B, schlager, Neil Diamond etc.)

Apart from that, you like a party, you're in!

On another note, my holiday (first in over a year). Like usual with me, it's going to be action packed :-)

Flying into Helsinki -> beach party -> flying to Lapland to relax -> flying back to Helsinki for a night -> taking a boat over to Talinn to party for a night -> coming back -> taking train to St. Petersburg -> checking out the town and ...... party -> coming back -> BBQ party thrown by me and Jani -> and if we have time, taking the booze cruise over to Sweden.

All in 13 days! :)

I'm going to be slightly fucked when I get back. Sweet!

Post no. 100

Post no. 100 already in about a year. I sure have spouted a lot of BS!

So I'll make this short and sweet. Some recommendations again : I currently am a very big fan of the show "My name is Earl". Which stars Jason Lee as a redneck thief trying to better this life. Very funny!

Also, I got this link and I fell in love.

Listen to this song : http://www.bossaboogie.com/allezlesfilles/clementine.mp3 and then tell me the summer hasn't arrived. Now I just want to take the classic Citroen 2CV my folks just bought and drive around the French countryside.

Fleabay

I've joined the revolution, about 7 years too late though. I've finally bought my first thing via Ebay! What's even more ridiculous then waiting so long to do so is what I actually bought :

A 5 year old house mix CD of a pair of German DJs.

Why in God's name did I do that? Well, after 3 months the Mrs. (boss lady/coffee maker/phone answer-er depending on the day) finally cracked under pressure and lost our smoking bet leaving me with some extra cash. Which I think could only be spent in one way, on her. So I signed up on Ebay and got cracking. I can say only one thing : German women have weird (but expensive) taste.

Was good fun though. Anybody have any suggestions on crap I can buy now?

Damn it feels old to be a gangsta'

26!!!!

Damn, 26 already. This child of the 80s is sliding down into maturity, career prospects and Ikea shopping.
Some other scary thoughts on this reflection day:
-I've grown from 4,8 kilo's and 55 CMs (I feel sorry for my future wife already) to 93kgs and 2,00m.
-In the last 365 days I've lived in 4 countries.
- I've owned 25 cars (and one motorcycle) in the 7 1/2 years I've had my license.
And scariest of all: my parents both were 26 when they had me.
Yikes!
P.S. Not all bad news though. As if I did not know: I have the world coolest and nicest boss. Love my "Tag Heuer" watch which gives the time as 10,15aLm :-)

Bavarian Motor Works

Time to bore to living daylights out of you lot. I'm going to talk about my new car. If you're not into cars or think that anything's older than 3 years is a pile of poo the following is prob. not for you. But seeing as I still think the 80s is the coolest decade ever, I refuse to buy anything made since 1989.

OK, here goes : When I came back from China I had two wishes:

- Find a cool appartment in Duesseldorf.
- Get a car I love as much as I did my old 205 GTI.

Well, finally the wishes have been completed. After searching left and right, looking at many many car I decided I wanted a E30 BMW. I've looked at Porsche 944s, BMW E36s (the model from the 90s), a perfect Peugeot 309 GTI 16v

with a fantastic engine upgrade but something drew me back to the style, handling and downright greatness of the classic 80s Yuppie BMW icon.

But try and find a good one. 99% of them are crashed, trashed, pimped up and have rusted into oblivian. With prices for this model being already higher than the later 90s one due to how hard it is to find a good one, it would've just been easier to go for the newer car.

But then I saw an ad. An E30 325i. With the ultra rare M-Tech 2 bodykit. (an option which wasn't cheap at the time). 1 owner (born in 1946) since new. Only 65.000 kms. Recaro sport seats. BBS wheels. Never been crashed. Like new. It's like finding a contact ad for a woman who states :

"Am 1.78, blond, 55kilo's, play sports, am a fantastic cook, love sex but haven't slept with the whole northern hemisphere, don't like shopping much, love kids and have a nice caring personality"

It just does not exist.

And it was located in Duisburg. Just 20kms from the office. So despite my doubts. I called, and drove over the same night. It was located in a parking garage in a harbour district neighbourhood. My heart sank as I found the house. This car couldn't be as nice as the ad stated, would it? Got to be stolen. Or at least used as a getaway vehicle. Then the seller opened the door. I was in love. It all checked out. I haggled for some discount and bought it on the spot.

I picked it up with my dad on Friday and we drove it over to his garage. We checked it out. Verdict : apart from some very small blemishes, I had a great car on my hands. Whoohoooooooo!

Here are some pictures. It's completely original. The wheels, the seats, even the Blaupunkt tape player is still in there. Nice. It's quite luxurious for a 80s car too. It's got ABS, central locking, a sunroof, electric mirrors, but strangely : manual (keep-you-fit) windows. It's got a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder engine, 170 horsepower, rear wheel drive and a top speed of over 230km per hour.

The green plates are Dutch trader plates. I've leave on on German plates though. And seeing as you can choose your own combo in Germany I was thinking D : NA 666 or (Got to love the simpsons) D : OH 325.

Because it's been standing still for a bit, it's now going to get a giant maintenance check-over. And a limited slip diff for drifting. Cannot wait. I have a feeling this is going to stay in my hands somewhat longer than the usual few months. :-)

Waiting

My right leg is hopping, my throat is dry, my mind is wandering, I cannot sleep, eating's difficult and it's impossible to concentrate.

Will pick up my Bavarian Beauty in 2 days. Damn, why do the minutes tick away so slowly?

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Weekly weekend review

Frankfurt was AWESOME! (No pics yet, Jani should send me some soon)

The whole city was full of football fans, 250-500 thousand people. All there for the Brazil-France game. The atmosphere was just incredible. They built a screen in the middle on the river and spectating areas on both shores. Great! Unfortunately the froggies won, and the party wasn't half of what it could be. If Brazil won, I can only imagine.

Tuomas proved himself a great host, taking us to all kinds of nice clubs. Best of which was Living, located on the 1st floor on the European Central Bank building and which seemed awfully posh. Nice girls though. Some bottles of the alcoholic perfume later and they looked even better!

Actually did some touristy things too, such as visit the botanical gardens. Damn! Very nice.

Sunday was spend leeching on somebody's Wi-Fi in the park, drinking lots of coffee, watching a Woody Allen movie in German (so he can bitch about life in another language) and having a Pizza. At midnight. How....latin.

Slept at 3, got up at 5.30, drove off at 6, at work at 08.10. 300kms away. On to the next weekend!
