Double D

This weekend : drink or drown 2006.

Where? Frankfurt.
Who? Tuomas, Jani and yours truly.
Why? Replay of drink or drown 2005, which took place in Vienna/Bratislava exactly a year ago.
Host? Tuomas, same as last time.

The plan? Drinking every bar dry, or drowning trying.

Men are simple creatures. Give us a drink, we don't need much to be happy. This is part 3 of the tour of Jani and I this year. Parts 4, 5 & 6 will follow later. We have to nail down the cities first.

Record we have to beat? Going out from 13.00 on a Saturday till 9.00 on the Sunday. I reckon we will make it.

What a weekend!

The world cup had a large influence on my weekend. On Saturday I was in the Eifell mountains, playing on an empty track. All the German stayed as home to watch their team cream Sweden. Fantastic!

And then came the infamous match against Portugal. Let's not mince words. It was fucked up.

Will be curious to see what happens in the rest of the tournament, but in the mean time I will drown my sorrows. Frankfurt this weekend with the Finns.

Garçon! Champagne!

This blog has been taken over.....

By somebody who certainly isn't me.....

First of all. I hate football. Despise it. But Netherlands will be World Champion, OK? No two ways about it. We will kick everybody's arse.

Good now that that's out of the way :

After 7 years of (very) hard living I've finally got around to leading a bit more of a healthy life. Niek? Healthy? Yes, me. When I came to Germany I had a small doctors exam. The news was slightly scary. Blood pressure through the roof, high(ish) heart rate, lungs not OK.

So instead of taking blood pressure meds I actually (for the first time ever) got off my arse and decided to live healthier.

I quit the ciggies. For good now. Amazing what motivation a 100 euro bet can be.
I go to the gym. Twice a week for weights training. And I run now (not as often as I should but still)
I quit drinking during the week. Exceptions are there, but still.
And to give you a clue about my eating habits : this afternoon I had a salad. Rabbit food. And a mineral water. Rabbit drink. Nothing else. What I really wanted was to have the rabbit itself with a nice sauce poured over it, but such is life.

Follow up exam was this morning. Blood pressure sank a shitload and is 100% normal now. Heart rate went down 6 bpm to a normal level. Want to get it down some more though. Lungs : A-OK. Whoohooooo!

Cannot tell you how happy I am about this. To celebrate I feel like a big juicy steak and a weizbeer and Belgian truffels and a Cuban and........

No Niek, bad Niek.

Still have the 12 pack though.

30 Degree update

Now that it is 30 degrees here in Germany, a small summer update.

The student party last thursday was fantastic! Beer, bbq, sunshine remain such nice combo. Thanks to Jendrik, Phil, Robsi and the rest for making it a crazy day out. I had to recover till about 15.00 the next day before I was in any way fit to drive.

This coming WE will be more calm, as there's a lot of driving to be done. First off, going to a wedding reception held at one of the world's biggest racing events and then going drifting on sunday. Going sideways at a 50-60 degree angle at 120 kmh (75 mph). Niiiice.

May also take the bike out. Still have not managed to go faster than the 250 kmh I managed in 2003. This spring it stands at 235, but the front started to weave around a bit.

The goals one had to set himself, eh?

And Munich coming up again. This time I'll get some help trying to drink all the alcohol in Bavaria from 3 wise men from the north. Cannot wait!

Clear out the autobahn!

Had to laugh at the pic. I'm quite happy to be working in Germany, so I do not have to deal with this stupidity too often.

And speed I shall this afternoon. As I'm heading off at noon to go to Paderborn for a nice student party with some of my old Shanghai buddies. BBQ, beer and students. I can deal with that.

Party on!
